East Texas Food Bank, the city of Tyler and the Junior League of Tyler are kicking off the annual summer backpack program! During the summer, the program will give out more than 3,500 backpacks with healthy meals in them. The backpacks will be distributed in Smith County to families at 15 locations, according to TylerPaper.com. The backpacks will help make sure that children don't go hungry over the weekend. The Junior League gave $20,000 to the program, which was enough for about 5,000 backpacks!

"The ETFB has said that 1 out of 4 Smith County kids is at risk of hunger. Cullinane added that the program is free to everyone under the age of 18, meaning there is no qualification other than needing a meal."
