Deep East Texas Softball/Baseball Teams Make State Rankings
It's springtime in Texas, which means high school softball and baseball teams have just started district play or are about to get their district slate underway.
A lot of teams in the Deep East Texas area have put together some strong starts to the season and have earned spots in state rankings for their respective conferences. There are a few teams that should be in the top 25 but are not included (we will talk about that a little later).
Let's start first with softball. We will take a look at the latest rankings (March 11) from the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA).
Softball - Ranked Teams from Deep East Texas
Class 4A
The Henderson Lady Lions are #25 in the Class 4A state rankings. No other team from Deep East Texas was included in the latest poll.
Class 3A
The Coldspring-Oakhurst Lady Trojans are in the Class 3A top ten, coming in as the #9 team in the state. Meanwhile, the Diboll Ladyjacks check in as the #19 team in the same poll.
The Huntington Devilettes have a solid team and IMO should be included in the top 25, and would someone please explain to me why the Central Lady Dogs are not in the top 25? I mean, they've only won 21 out of their 23 games this year.
Class 2A/1A
The TGCA combines 2A and 1A to come up with this top 25.
Brookeland (13), Lovelady (17), Groveton (19), and Alto (23), all made the latest rankings.
Now, let's take a look at the latest baseball rankings according to Diamond Pro/Texas High School Baseball
Baseball - Ranked Teams From Deep East Texas
Class 4A
Hudson is no stranger to post-season play and being state-ranked. The Hornets got off to a bit of a slow start this year, but have been reeling off the wins as of late. Hudson is ranked #15 in the state in Class 4A.
Class 3A
Central Heights has been a dominating force in baseball for many years, and 2024 is no different. The Blue Devils are currently number 5 in the state.
The Diboll Lumberjacks have made some deep runs into the playoffs lately, and this could be another big year for them. The 'Jacks are ranked 22nd in the state.
Class 2A
The Garrison Bulldogs check in at #6 in the state in Class 2A. Meanwhile, Groveton is also in the top 10 with a #9 ranking.
Class A
For some reason, the Class A division is not included in the Diamond Pro rankings, nor any other ranking sources that I could find for the State of Texas.
