
Broaddus, Central Heights, San Augustine Head To State Semifinals
The UIL Texas Girls' Basketball Playoffs have now moved into the state semifinal round. 3 teams from Deep East Texas are heading into the fifth round of the playoffs. Central Heights, San Augustine, and Broaddus are all just 1 win away from playing for a state championship. Let's take a look at their upcoming games.
San Augustine Lady Wolves
The Lady Wolves (27-9) finished 2nd in their district behind Chireno. San Augustine has defeated Elysian Fields, Hawkins, Leon Jewett, and Marlin on their way to the state semifinal game. San Augustine will take on Mason (39-1) on Monday at 6:30 at Mumford High School.
The Mason Cowgirls are ranked 2nd in the state in Class 2A. Last year, they advanced to the regional semifinals and ended with a record of 26-13. The winner of this game will advance to the state championship game to take on either Panhandle or Cisco.
Central Heights Lady Devils
Central Heights (31-5) are district champs and has won 20 straight games. In their playoff run, the Lady Devils have defeated Kountze, Anderson-Shiro, West, and Buffalo. They will play the Jourdanton Squaws (32-9) on Tuesday at 6 pm at the Merrill Center in Katy, Texas.
Joudranton advanced to the state semifinals last year before losing to Kountze, the eventual state champions for 2024-25. The winner of this game will play either Wall or Paradise for the Class 3A, Division II state championship.
Broaddus Lady Bulldogs
Broaddus (34-5) is trying to win back-to-back state championships. The Lady Bulldogs are district champs, have won 16 straight games, and are ranked #5 in the state in Class A. They have beaten Hull-Daisetta, Zephyr, Fayetteville, and Brookeland in their playoff run. Broaddus will play Dodd City (28-8) on Tuesday at 6 pm at Frankston High School.
The Lady Hornets of Dodd City advanced to the area round last year before losing to Newcastle. The winner of this game will play either Spur or Eula in the Class A, Division I state championship game. A repeat of last year's Broaddus/Eula matchup is very possible.
