We are deep into April, and for area high schools that means proms, graduation preparation, and thoughts about what to do for the upcoming summer break.

It also means baseball season is approaching its last few games of district play. Many area teams are hoping to make deep playoff runs this year, and judging by the number of teams in the state rankings, I think those hopes will soon turn to realities.

Let's take a look at the latest state high school baseball rankings according to Diamond Pro.  These are the rankings that were released on Monday, April 17.

Class 4A

Two teams from Deep East Texas are in the top ten of Class 4A baseball, and both teams have a great history of success.

The Carthage Bulldogs are ranked 8th in the state, while the Hudson Hornets, who haven't lost a game in over a month, check in at number 10. Hornets Coach Glen Kimble recently recorded his 500th victory at the helm of Hudson.
