If you didn't get the chance to make your way out to the Great Texas Mud Races, you missed out on something truly awesome, which became quite the East Texas experience.

For over a decade - since 2004, to be exact - you could find your way out behind the Nacogdoches County Expo Center for the most awesome experience of loud cars, cheering fans, flying mud, booming music, and great announcers.

This was an event that I was able to attend several times, first as a kid, then also to come back as an adult. And you know what? I was never disappointed in the least. GTMR was also an event that I took my wife to, so that she could attend her very first mud race.

But all of that is coming to a close. On Friday, January 19th, Team Motorjam - the driving force and group that created GTMR - posted on their Facebook page the news that the Great Texas Mud Races were coming to a close.

"The time has come to make a very tough decision..." is what was written on the Facebook post, before going into details and thanks about the event over the years, and how they've come to this decision.

So, if you weren't able to attend the Great Texas Mud Races, I encourage you to find some pictures or videos, so that you can at least get a small glimpse of the legendary East Texas event. Maybe you can get a small taste of what it was like to be at the track, rain or shine.

So, while this is most definitely a sad time for us native East Texans to see the races come to a close, it's also a great opportunity for us to look back on how truly great the Great Texas Mud Races were.

We also want to send a sincere thanks to Team Motorjam for always keeping an incredible event going for over 13 years. Not just the races themselves, but the entire GTMR experience. It. Was. Awesome.
