Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood Share Backstage Tribute to Loretta Lynn [Watch]
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood celebrated Loretta Lynn's 87th birthday by paying tribute to her with a very special cover of one of her legendary songs.
Brooks and Yearwood were on hand to perform at Loretta Lynn: An All-Star Birthday Concert Celebration, which took place at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on Monday night (April 1). Brooks shared a video clip to Facebook of the pair singing "After the Fire Is Gone" backstage before their performance.
Lynn originally recorded the song as a duet with Conway Twitty, and it reached No. 1 when they released it as the single from their We Only Make Believe album in 1971.
"Hey Loretta, we love you more than our Irish Setter! Happy Birthday! love, g & t" the couple shared on Brooks' Facebook page.
After they rehearsed their cover song, Brooks said it was a zoo backstage, filled with countless performers.

"I was filming the cooking show today so I didn't have a chance to rehearse," Yearwood confesses in the video above. "I didn't get to be here for rehearsals so Garth was kind enough to rehearse with me in the corner. I appreciate it."
"Loretta will be sitting five feet from you over on stage. So no pressure," Brooks jokes.
Both Yearwood and Brooks are huge Lynn fans. Brooks was even Lynn's date to the Grammys event at the Ryman in Nashville in 2010, when she earned the Grammy Lifetime Achievement award.
Lynn's birthday celebration featured numerous star-studded performances, including the first-ever performance from the Highwomen, a new country supergroup that features Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires and Maren Morris. Other performers included George Strait, Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Pistol Annies, Alan Jackson, Kacey Musgraves, Margo Price, Brandy Clark, Darius Rucker, Little Big Town, Martina McBride and Jack White.
The special celebration included Urban fulfilling Lynn's wish that he jump out of her birthday cake, and he also provided one of the musical high points of the evening when he performed "Blue Kentucky Girl."
Lynn will turn 87 on April 14. She's been on the mend since she suffered a stroke in May 2017, then broke her hip in January 2018.
