Tucker Knight is as tough as they come.  That's usually a statement reserved for someone well into their adult years, but this 3-year-old boy has endured much more than most adults will ever take on in a lifetime.

Knight was born premature. He was born about 15 weeks short of full term making his appearance into this world at 1 pound, 13 ounces.  Any baby born between 23-28 weeks into a pregnancy is classified as extremely preterm, and as you might expect, a baby born that early is susceptible to a host of ailments.

Recently, Tucker was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer called hepatoblastoma.  Chemo treatments were the first order of business, but after that, a liver transplant had to be performed.  Now, Tucker is staying at a hotel in close proximity to the hospital where the surgery was performed.  According to an article in the Lufkin Daily News, he'll be staying there for about a month before resuming chemo treatments.

Yet, through it all, Tucker continues to be resilient, upbeat and tough.  In our station's work with childhood cancer patients, I've come to know many kids who are battling life's toughest battles, yet they all seem to have the gracious gift of understanding what truly is important in our lives.

As you might expect, the medical bills continue to multiply.  With that in mind, friends and family members of Tucker are putting on a benefit golf tournament on Saturday, October 2 at Neches Pines Golf Course in Diboll.  The 4 person scramble will start at 8 am and the cost is $400 per team.  Anyone wanting more information can reach out to the golf course or contact Cory Hines at chines@chesterisd.com.

A blood drive will also take place on October 2 at the golf course's parking lot. The main goal of the blood drive is to help supply kids who are battling just like Tucker.

A Go Fund Me account has also been established for Tucker and his family.
