(KNUE-FM) No state in the U.S. makes better food than what you can find in Texas. Especially when we’re talking about the comfort food, chicken and dumplings. While the majority of Texans would probably say the best chicken and dumplings are found at their mom’s or granny’s house, there are some Texas restaurants that deserve some recognition, too.

The History of Chicken and Dumplings

Chicken and dumplings originated with dumplings created in European countries, brought to America by early settlers. At that time, they were simple dough balls that were boiled or steamed with stew or soup.

Americans added chicken as a protein to the delicious dumplings. It’s a fairly simple recipe and fills people up, which is why it’s been so popular for so long.

The new recipes that people are creating have added more of a cream-based broth for extra richness.

I have yet to decide which one I prefer more, which means I need to eat more chicken and dumplings.
