The U.S. and Mexico borders are packed with lots of people traveling across the border, often for work. But for now, Mexico is warning its citizens to avoid traveling to Texas if possible.

In fact, it’s not just Texas that Mexico is saying to avoid, but also seven other states including Alaska, California, New Jersey, New York, New Mexico, Rhode Island and specifically 9 counties located in Texas.

Why is Mexico Saying to Avoid the U.S.?

According to KXAN, the big reason that the Mexico government has been telling it’s citizens to avoid the U.S. has nothing to do with immigration or border policies.

It’s all about staying healthy and right now the U.S. is dealing with a measles outbreak.

Confirmed Child Death in Texas

The Texas Health Department has already confirmed the death of one child who contracted measles, this is the first child related measles death in the U.S. since 2015.

Mexico Already Dealing with Cases

Recently, Mexico’s Health Secretary announced one case of measles in the state of Chihuahua, which is right across the border from Texas.

A huge recommendation from medical professionals right now is to get the measles vaccination if you haven’t already.

Nuevo Leon, which is another state within Mexico, just south of Texas is also warning it’s residents to not travel to the Lone Star State, especially if they haven’t received the measles vaccine.

Measles are highly contagious which can lead to severe complications and even death.

Symptoms include a cough, runny or congested nose, red or watery eyes and a fever.
