Dog Dies In Crown Colony Fire
Smoke was visible all over South Lufkin before lunch today while a house fire in Crown Colony was active. The Lufkin Fire Department was dispatched at 11:35 AM on Thursday to a home on the 2200 block of Champions Drive.
When they arrived at the residence, it was already fully engulfed, and the roof collapsed in minutes. According to the Lufkin Daily News, it burned so hot that a neighboring house caught on fire.
A couple of people live in the house, along with their dog. They were not home at the time. According to KTRE, the dog died in the fire.
All On-Duty Firefighters Showed Up At Lufkin Fire
Here at the radio station, I heard multiple sirens going toward the fire. According to Lufkin Fire Chief Jesse Moody, they had all of their on-duty firefighters and called in seven off-duty emergency responders to battle the blaze.
From photos of the fire, there were multiple cars in the driveway, one small Cadillac SUV likely sustained damage being so close to the garage.
There has been no word yet on a cause for the fire, and it is still under investigation. This isn't the first time in recent memory that a home in Crown Colony has quickly gone up in flames.

A very similar fire happened in January of 2023 on a Saturday morning on Baltrusol Court. The family was able to escape, but the home and all of the cars in the garage were a total loss. According to KTRE, no surrounding homes were damaged in that fire.
