
DQ Down: East Texas Dairy Queen Locations Shutter Abruptly
The lactose intolerant masses in Deep East Texas have scored a victory as the queen of dairy, aka Dairy Queen, locations are being shuttered. Growing up in rural parts of Texas, Dairy Queen was and still is for many, a big part of everyday life.
I remember going to many a location for an evening blizzard, a dude sandwich, chicken finger basket, or a dilly bar. A wise woman once told me that if I lost my job, I might end up working at Dairy Queen dipping dilly bars.

I never really thought that was a bad fate, especially if I could eat the mistakes, and there would be many. Making that perfect dip swirl on the top is harder than it looks.
Huntington Dairy Queen Closed For Good Monday Evening
At one time, there were 3 or more Dairy Queen locations just in Lufkin. Now there are officially no Dairy Queens in Lufkin.

As many DQ fans around East Texas enjoyed a free cone on March 20th, plans were being made to close down the Huntington and Lufkin Dairy Queen locations.
According to the Lufkin Daily News, Deep East Texas lost the following franchises held by Lonestar DQ this week:
- Hemphill
- Jasper
- Kountze
- Huntington
- Lufkin
- Longview Eastman
Add To The Growing List Of Dairy Queen Locations Closing In East Texas
Nacogdoches and Diboll both closed their locations earlier in 2025. Many of these DQ restaurants have been in constant operation for over 50 years and are reaching the end of their useful lives.
Our thoughts are with the many families that are going through a major job loss over these closures with no notice. Now we wait to see what type of food spot will take over the old locations.
