Felony Arrests In Angelina County June 9th – 15th
This week when putting together a list of the worst offenders in Angelina County, I noticed that the youngest men arrested for felonies had committed the worst crimes.
Jaiquies Lashawn Lewis from Wiergate, an unincorporated town near Newton, Texas, was booked for his connection to a crime from 2023. He was only 17 at the time.
On March 12, 2023, Lewis was one of four suspects in a shooting which left a Jasper resident dead at the Cabbage Patch Club in Lufkin. Now 18 he is back in the Angelina County Jail, over a year later with a $500,000 bond for the murder.
Young Men In East Texas Getting Caught Up In Crime
Kevin Olalde, 18, was arrested for evading arrest with a vehicle and deadly conduct. Though these are only third-degree felonies, running from law enforcement with a vehicle is a zero-sum game.
You rack up the charges the longer you evade capture, like his added charge of deadly conduct. Many of the felons that get arrested for evading will now have a felony arrest record, instead of a misdemeanor marijuana or DWI conviction they might have gotten if they just pulled over.
Felony charges are the ones that don't go away. It's worse than having bad credit; you can fix bad credit in 7 years or so, but a felony is forever. It makes getting a job even that much harder in the future.
