Ja'Lynn Polk is one of the best wide receivers in the history of Lufkin High School. He's right there with other superstars like Dez Bryant and Keke Coutee.

During his time at Lufkin High, he ranked 2nd all-time in school history with 131 receptions and 2,412 years. And he's 3rd all-time on the touchdown list with 24.

However, despite being a superstar in High School and a really good player at Texas Tech and Washington, he hasn't really been able to showcase his ability at the pro level. Despite being a 2nd round pick for the New England Patriots, he hasn't seen much action.

He had an extremely disappointing rookie year and suffered a pre-season injury that will cause him to miss a lot of action this season. However, the promising receiver will get a fresh start closer to home.

Former Lufkin High Star Traded

Despite being on IR with a shoulder injury and likely to miss most if not all of the 2025 season, the New England Patriots have opted to move on from Ja'Lynn Polk. In 15 games his rookie year, he only managed to catch 12 passes for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The 23 year old was traded to the New Orleans Saints on Saturday for a 6th round pick in the 2027 draft.

Despite not being available this season, Polk does have the potential to be a weapon for Kellen Moore and the Saints moving forward. He's affordable as he's still on a rookie contract and he's a physical, big bodies receiver that can make contested catches. Just what the Saints need.

So, there's a ton of upside here for the Saints. And with Rashid Shaheed being a potential free agent, Brandin Cooks turning 32 this year and Chris Olave's long term future with the Saints being unknown, Polk could be a future 1 or 2 receiver for the Saints if he can stay healthy and learn to get separation from coverage.

Ja'Lynn Polk Isn't the Only Lufkin Star on the Saints

Ja'Lynn Polk will be joining another Lufkin superstar in New Orleans - Erik McCoy. McCoy is one of the best centers in football and has been the anchor for the Saints O-Line the past few season.

Erik McCoy has been a Pro Bowler the past few seasons and, judging off the first couple of Saints games this season, could be in line for a third.

So, Polk is going to the Saints. He's going to get opportunities to play. Moore is an offensive minded coach. And, he has a familiar face to help him out.

This could be the perfect landing spot to revive his career and reach his full potential.
