No Summer Swimming at Jones Pool Due to Lifeguard Shortage

Now that we're right in the middle of summer break for students, and the summer season just started, most pools and splash pads are in full swing. However, there's one pool in Lufkin that hasn't opened yet, and according to a new announcement, will not be opening at all this summer.

Jones Pool in Lufkin Will Remain Closed This Summer

According to an announcement posted to Facebook, Jones Pool will not be opening up at all this summer. Jones Pool is located in Jones Park at 1501 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Lufkin. It's not remaining closed due to maintenance or upgrades or anything like that. The reason for it remaining closed is actually pretty interesting one, though, and has to do with staffing shortages.

The post from the City of Lufkin, Texas Facebook account said:

The Closure is the result of an ongoing shortage of certified lifeguards. The department currently does not have sufficient certified staff to operate the facility safely during regular summer hours.

That post was made on June 25th. So, there you have it. The Jones Pool has not been open this summer, and it will stay completely closed for the rest of the summer.

So, if you were planning on spending some time out at Jones Park by the pool, you'll need to make some different plans, at least for this summer. You might want to encourage more people to get certified as lifeguards, too, so that maybe this won't be a continuing issue...
