Nacogdoches Medical Center Lights Up with Mardi Gras Cheer
We're just over a month away from Mardi Gras. The official date is Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

I know that here in Deep East Texas we don't usually get as excited for Mardi Gras, or go all out like our Louisiana neighbors to the east of us do. However, we will see some people or businesses that run special deals or celebrate Mardi Gras in their own way. Some groups even get into the decorating spirit. This is what I came across when driving through Nacogdoches the other night:
If you're not familiar with that building, it's the Nacogdoches Medical Center on the north side of the city, and they've got their Mardi Gras Lights out.

Now, hear me out, I am not making fun of NMC for this. I actually think it's pretty cool! Depending on the reasons for being there, hospitals can be pretty drab, depressing places. With the addition of just a few colored lights, you can liven up the place. What you also can't see in that photo is that they have these lights going all across the front of the building. It's not just these three and no more.
This isn't the first time they've changed their lighting for different holidays, though. I know that I've seen red, white and blue for patriotic holidays, red and green for Christmas and - if I'm not mistaken - I'm pretty sure they had pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I don't know who is in charge of their lighting, but even these small changes really make us locals take notice.
Now, as you can see, they're in the Mardi Gras theme. Laissez Les Bon Temp Rouler, Deep East Texas!
