Get Ready For A Busy Graduation Weekend In Nacogdoches
If you're a native of Nacogdoches, or if you've been there for any extended period of time at all, then you probably already know what I'm about to tell you. If you're new to Nac, or just passing through, this is IMPORTANT INFORMATION. Lock in now.
Every year around this time, Nacogdoches residents start planning for a huge influx of people to the city. There are multiple days in a row when the city is completely packed with visitors. The days that I'm referring to are SFA Spring Graduation days, and they're coming up very soon.
When is the SFA Spring Graduation?
This year, the Spring Commencement ceremonies at SFA will be held on Thursday, May 7th, and Friday, May 8th according to the SFA website. Thursday, all of the students that will be receiving their Bachelor's Degrees from the James I. Perkins College education will have their ceremony at 2:00 PM, and the students that are receiving their Master's and Doctorate Degrees - from all of the different colleges - will have their ceremony at 6:00 PM.
On Friday, both ceremonies will be for students receiving Bachelor's Degrees. Students from the Nelson Rusche College of Business, the Micky Elliott College of Fine Arts, and the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture will have graduation ceremonies take place at 2:00 PM. Students from the College of Liberal and Applied Arts, as well as the College of Science and Mathematics will have graduation ceremonies take place at 6:00 PM. All of the ceremonies will be held at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
What Does this Graduation Mean for Nacogdoches Residents?
I know that I've already mentioned that the graduation will bring in a huge influx of people into Nacogdoches. You need to be prepared for lots more traffic - especially on North Street and University Drive. You also may want to consider NOT eating out those days. The wait-lines at the local restaurants will be much longer. Plus, you run the risk of food shortages. You don't really want to get to your favorite restaurant, only to find out that they're out of your favorite meal, do you?

I will say this: I'm super excited and proud of our SFA students. I don't write this to put them, or their families and friends, down. I write this to make sure that you're aware of what's coming. Now you know. Good luck.
