Take a Stroll Through Nacogdoches’ Downtown Snack Shop – Susu’s Popcorn

For years, people have been complaining that Nacogdoches has too many "duplicate" stores - donut shops, boutiques, antique stores, etc. And yes, there are a lot of those around town, it's true.

But there are lots of unique things around the city. One of those is Susu's Popcorn & Candy Cafe. It's definitely one of a kind in Nacogdoches.

What is Susu's?

Susu's is exactly what it sounds like. It's a snack shop. I can't make it much more simple than that. They've been in the downtown scene for a couple of years now, but every time I walk through the doors, it's like walking through for the first time. They've got everything from popcorn, to candy, to old-fashioned glass bottle sodas and more. There are all different kinds of popcorn flavors, whether you like traditional stuff like butter or caramel, or whether you want to try more localized flavors like Nac Snack or even - yes, it's true - a taste of Brendyn's BBQ, they've got it all.

Susu's is owned and operated by the Sowards family, a local Nacogdoches family, who are quick to support Nacogdoches, SFA, and more throughout the local community. The biggest part of Susu's, obviously, is the popcorn. You can go in and get it by the bag, by the tin, or - on days like National Popcorn Day - by whatever container you bring in yourself.

Where Can I Find Susu's?

Like I mentioned earlier, the original - and main - location of Susu's is at 115 E. Main Street, right on the brick streets of Nacogdoches. But, if you're not a Nac-native or don't go to Nacogdoches often, they've also got a second store in Lufkin - 420 S. First Street, close to the downtown Lufkin area.

So, for all those of you in Lufkin, you get your own space, too!
