The Most Popular Dog Breed in Texas for 2026 Revealed

Here in Texas, we love our dogs. I personally have owned dogs my whole life - literally. I started with a Golden Retriever, and since then I've owned Blue Heelers, Catahoula Curs, Poodles, Beagles, and, of course, mutts. And I know that I'm not the only one. Most of the people I come into contact with have a dog of some sort at home. So that got me thinking, "Out of all these dogs that people have, what is the most popular breed in Texas?"

The Goldendoodle is the Most Popular Breed of Dog in Texas

According to the Rover website, the most popular dog breed in Texas for 2026 is the Goldendoodle, the mix of Golden Retriever and Poodle breeds.

Really, this is no surprise to me. I mean, come on, you have a dog that enjoys the water, (usually) has a very loyal disposition thanks to the Golden Retriever DNA, (usually again) enjoys the water and the outdoors, and then - to top it all off - doesn't shed! What is there not to love?

It turns out, Texas isn't the only place that likes Goldendoodles. According to Rover, Texas is one of 14 states where the Goldendoodle is the most popular.

The Goldendoodle is the #4 most popular dog breed in America, with #1 being "non-designer mixed breeds", #2 being Labrador Retrievers, and #3 being Golden Retrievers. I'd say that being in the top five is a solid win for Texas.
