In Deep East Texas there's no shortage of "bad" intersections. We've got weird one-ways, roundabouts, multi-lanes, etc. Navigating the roads here is a legitimate skill. Sometimes I'm amazed that my GPS can keep up.

I've discussed bad ones in Nacogdoches before, but there are others in Deep East Texas that can be just as bad if not worse. What about Lufkin? There's one that comes to my mind. It's not on the loop...it's not downtown...Lufkin drivers, do you have any idea which intersection I might be referring to?

Timberland Drive / S. First is the Worst Intersection

When it comes to bad intersections in Lufkin, the worst one - at least in my opinion and experience - is where Timberland Drive merges and becomes S. First Street. I mean, look at this thing from a Google Maps perspective:

If I was trying to describe this to someone, I wouldn't even know where to start...There are so many different aspects to that one intersection that I couldn't begin to describe it. And the worst part? I have to navigate this intersection every single day, because that's the intersection right outside the doors of the radio station...See that "Townsquare Media Lufkin" building? Yeah, that's the station. I get to go through that spaghetti-looking stuff on my way in each morning.

I suppose that if you just go slow, paying attention to the other drivers, it's not so terrible...No, it's just that bad. There's no way to sugarcoat that intersection. It's just the worst one in Lufkin, and - quite possibly - all of Deep East Texas. Period. If you've got one that you think is worse and think you can convince me otherwise, you're welcome to try. Don't hold your breath, though.
