A North Texas firefighter and paramedic is under investigation after disturbing footage appearing to show him beating a dog was posted to social media.

The Azle Fire Department has not released the employee’s name but said Wednesday that he has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

“We are following all appropriate procedures to address the situation,” Fire Chief Thomas Scott said in a statement. “While we are limited in what we can share regarding personnel matters, we want to assure the public that we are committed to transparency, accountability, and maintaining the trust of our community.”

What the Video Shows

The clip, reportedly from a Ring camera inside a home, shows a man dragging a dog to a sofa before striking it with his hand and kicking it multiple times. Each time the dog attempts to escape, the man pulls it back and continues the attack. At one point, he forces the animal’s head to the ground and holds it there until it manages to run out of the room.

Another video allegedly shows the same man yelling at a child, according to the Azle Professional Firefighters Association.

Community and Union Response

In a public statement, the association condemned the footage:

“Azle firefighters are deeply troubled and saddened by the recently published videos… We condemn abuse in any form, and we stand with the community in demanding accountability and justice.”

Police Investigation

The Fort Worth Police Department confirmed they are aware of the video, which may have been recorded in Fort Worth. An animal cruelty detective has begun looking into the matter, though no official police report has been filed at this time.
