Even though it's been four years since Carly Pearce got divorced from Michael Ray, the singer says that fans still speculate that every heartbreak song she releases is about that relationship.

During a recent round of Q&A on the singer's social media, one fan asked Pearce what the biggest public misconception about her is."That I'm not over my divorce," the singer replied.

In fact, she continues, many listeners assume she's still writing about her divorce in every song she puts out, but she's long closed that chapter of her life.

"It's been super hard to feel like every song I write since that very public situation is being attached that relationship, when in reality -- that couldn't be further from the truth," Pearce goes on to say. "I've had relationships since then that I pull inspo from & even story lines that are just important to me in general."

She also points out that she's always written heartbreak ballads. Her breakout hit was her debut single "Every Little Thing," and Pearce implies that fans have even tied that song to her relationship, despite the fact that the ballad came out in 2017 -- two years before she and Ray got married.

Pearce ends her answer with a gentle request for fans to simply drop it. "I've moved on & wish everyone could, too," she adds.

Pearce was open about her divorce from Ray throughout the process, and her 29: Written in Stone album was largely inspired by the heartbreak and healing she experienced in the wake of the split. But that album came out in 2021, and since then, she has released quite a bit of new music, including her latest album Hummingbird.
