Did you know that in its history, the state of Texas has had two Powerball Jackpot winners? Now, we've only been playing Powerball in Texas since 2010 but still, that's pretty good. Just recently Powerball made Texas winners in the town of Taylor and the town of Laredo. The wins in those Texas towns were $250,000 and $100,000 respectively.

On the flip side, Mega Millions, the other multi-state lottery game has produced 15 different jackpot winners. The latest was earlier this year when a Texas-sold ticket cashed in for a prize of $800 million. That ticket was sold in suburban Houston if memory serves me correctly.

If you didn't hear there was a Powerball jackpot win on Saturday night. A ticket sold in New York City earned the game's top prize of $256 million. That means tonight, Monday, December 9, 2024, the Powerball Game will start with a new jackpot of $20 million.

To most of us, $20 million is a lot of money but when it comes to playing lottery games that "paltry amount" doesn't move the meter among the casual lottery player. That's why Powerball is doing something unique this evening. They do it every time there is a new jackpot and it's designed to "entice you" to play the game.

As a Lotologist with about ten years of experience watching and reporting on Texas Lottery games, I can tell you the one thing that every ticket purchaser should do in games such as Powerball or Mega Millions. My advice is to play the Power Play and play the Megaplier when you buy your ticket.

Tonight for this "unique" version of the Powerball drawing there is one major reason you should spend the extra buck on Power Play if you choose to play Powerball. That reason is "10 times your winnings". Tonight Powerball will offer players a chance to have a "10x" multiplier if they opt for the Power Play.

Powerball only allows for the "10x" feature when the game's annuitized jackpot is less than $150 million. The jackpot will be $20 million tonight, so it's quite possible that the simple feat of matching the Powerball or matching one white ball and the Powerball could turn your $3 investment into a $40 windfall.

The game featured a "10x" Power Play on November 4th and it's possible the ball with the "10" could come rolling out of the hopper tonight at 10 when they hold the drawing. We are not saying it will happen, we are saying it could happen.

So, if you were feeling lucky tonight and had a few extra bucks you could afford to play with, maybe this would be a worthwhile shot to take for you. But, please remember these and all lottery games do involve a risk of losing money. So, only play with what you can afford to lose.
