Kelsea Ballerini Gives Surprise Acoustic Performance in Nashville [Watch]
Kelsea Ballerini has been in Nashville long enough to realize that you can’t forget where you came from, especially once you attain star status. So, to better get in touch with her Music City roots, the "Homecoming Queen?" singer made an unannounced stop at the Listening Room in Nashville on Thursday night (Oct. 17), much to the delight of the shocked fans in the audience.
“Thanks for having me,” Ballerini told the audience as she sat on a stool alongside songwriter Jimmy Robbins.
From there, she told the story of her current single “Homecoming Queen?,” a song she co-wrote alongside Robbins and Nicolle Galyon while she was out on tour this past February with Kelly Clarkson.
“I was just in this season where I was kind of portraying myself on the Instagram as being very together and very glittery and very happy,” she admitted before her Listening Room acoustic performance of the song.
While it may have appeared on social media that all was good with the country singer, Ballerini says there were times when she wasn’t very happy at all.
“I was 25 at the time and I’m still figuring out who I am and what makes me me and what makes me sad and what makes me vulnerable and insecure,” Ballerini continued. “I was going through that intellectually and privately, and that’s not a way to go through that kind of thing.”
“Homecoming Queen?” gave Ballerini the highest debut of her career on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart in September, debuting at No. 22 on the chart. She is now set to release her third full-length album, which she says promises to be her most personal yet.
