‘Idol’ Hopeful Laine Hardy, Elle King Put Their Spin on ‘The Weight’ [Watch]
While most country music fans were tuned in to the ACM Awards, American Idol hopeful Laine Hardy was performing a duet with Elle King on the Band's "The Weight" Sunday night (April 7).
Prior to the performance, King sat down with Hardy to chat and hopefully encourage him before he had to sing for a big crowd, on a big stage.
"I feel like I don't move as much as I should and I have something on my mind making me not do that and I don't know how to get rid of that," he explained to King. They both agreed it was probably fear, but she had some advice:
"I can't even imagine the pressure that's on him. I've played in front of 175,00 people and it can be really scary. You embarrass yourself sometimes but that's okay — at least you're trying something new, you know?" she said.

When it was show time, he nailed it.
Hardy originally performed this song during his his impromptu audition. He never intended to try out for American Idol again, having done so previously — he was only in front of judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie to play guitar for a friend. They made him try out, however, and he left with a golden ticket. It paid off.
