
Lufkin Police Investigate Fatal Shooting At Deer Cross Apartments
Lufkin Police have released more details about a shooting death that happened on Thursday, August 14, near Angelina College.
A Lufkin man has been charged with murder following a shooting Thursday evening at an apartment in the 3000 block of South First Street.
Dean Alexander Orlov, 32, is in the Angelina County Jail, charged with murder in the death of Joseph Lee Holeman, 45, of Lufkin. Bond has not yet been set.
Lufkin Police responded to a call of gunshots around 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Deer Cross Apartments. They found Orlov outside the apartment and Holeman lying just inside the door. Paramedics confirmed Holeman was dead.
According to police detectives, the apartment manager said the two men had been drinking at the pool earlier in the day. Around 4:30, the apartment manager was walking past the apartment building and heard gunshots.

She said she saw Orlov come from the apartment, and he said Holeman attacked him. She went into the apartment, saw Holeman, and called 9-1-1.

Texas Ranger Seymore assisted with the investigation at the crime scene. Lufkin Police detectives continue their investigation.
Orlov has been arrested several times since 2014. Most of his early arrests were for public intoxication, drug possession and DWI.
