Lufkin Graduate Awarded Koch Family Foundation Scholarship
Drew Dempsey, a 2023 graduate of Lufkin High School and a student at Stephen F. Austin State University has been selected as a recipient of a 2024 Koch Family Foundation Dependent Scholarship of $2,000 based on his demonstrated hard work and contributions to his school and community. Drew is the son of Ron and Courtney Dempsey. Ron is a boiler operator at the Georgia-Pacific Diboll Lumber facility, which is part of Koch Industries.
“Education enables people to discover, develop and apply their talents in ways that self-fulfill and contribute to their communities,” said Derek Roche, Diboll Lumber production manager. “Congratulations to Drew for earning the Koch Family Foundation Dependent Scholarship. We wish him continued success as he begins the next step of his learning journey.”
Drew has just completed his freshman year at Stephen F. Austin State University with a 4.0 grade point average. He is transferring in August to Texas A & M University in College Station to pursue a degree in history.
The Koch Family Foundation Dependent Scholarship Awards is a competitive scholarship program for high school seniors, undergraduate and skilled-trade students. $2,000 scholarships are awarded to qualifying dependents of full-time Koch company employees. This year’s recipients represent 21 different Koch companies across 100 communities in the U.S. and Canada.
“Georgia-Pacific is committed to education, one of four areas of impact under our stewardship framework,” said Curley Dossman, president of Community Programs, Georgia-Pacific and vice President of the Koch Company Charitable Fund. “We are proud of each recipient’s unwavering pursuit of excellence, scholarly achievement and parental support, which led to this remarkable accomplishment of being named a 2024 Koch Family Foundation Scholar.”
The scholarship is just one of many initiatives supporting education through the Koch Family Foundation. The Foundation supports the organization’s mission to inspire a new generation of lifelong learners that make lasting contributions to society and their communities.
