Go Back in Time in Lufkin with This New Arrival at Ray’s Drive In
Ray's Drive In has been an East Texas Tradition since 1959. For many years, Lufkin residents have voted their hamburgers the best. So, when Lawana Ray reached out to me to let me know that something new was coming to Ray's my first thought was..."If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Boy, was I wrong!
Introducing Zuberfizz!
Later, Lawana would reveal the new arrival was called Zuberfizz. After tasting several different flavors of Zuberfizz, here's the best way I can describe it.
Imaging going back to 1959, back when sodas were made with pure cane sugar and were deliciously creamy. That's what Zuberfizz has captured in their drinks, and it's a perfect fit for an East Texas Tradition like Ray's Drive In to be a part of this wonderful, throwback soda.
Ray's now serves bottles of Zuberfizz in huge ice-downed containers.
...And A Child Shall Lead The Way...
It's interesting to note that this creamy concoction would never have made it to Lufkin if it weren't for Lawana's granddaughter, Ava. She fell in love with the Chocolate Cream Soda while visiting Zuberfizz headquarters in Durango, Colorado and she asked Lawana if she would bring some back to Texas following their vacation.
That put everything in motion, and just a few months later, Ray's Drive In has become only the third retailer in Texas to carry Zuberfizz, (The others are in Denton and Wichita Falls).
What Flavors are Available?
- Vanilla Cream Soda
- Orange Cream Soda
- Chocolate Cream Soda
- Creamy Root Beer
- Strawberry Rhubarb Soda
- Grape Soda
Zuberfizz also produces some seasonal flavors that may be carried at Ray's.
A Little About Zuberfizz
According to their website, the parent company of Zuberfizz is Durango Soda Company, Inc. It was founded in January 2002 by partners Banden Zuber and Dan Aggeler. The idea was to manufacture traditional sodas that existed decades ago by using the best ingredients and packaging available, similar to what the microbrew industry was demonstrating.
The most important ingredient used in our sodas is pure cane sugar. Large companies have abandoned pure cane sugar to cut costs by using high-fructose corn syrup. It has been shown that this new widely-used ingredient is difficult to metabolize and is the leading cause of obesity and diabetes among Americans. Pure cane sugar also tastes much better. Every ingredient used in our sodas is of the highest quality.
So, the next time you head down to get a Ray's Special, make sure you reach into the icy tub and get yourself a creamy Zuberfizz soda.
