Speed limits are scheduled to be lowered in the city of Grapeland in Houston County after the lower limits were recently approved by TxDOT Commissioners and the City Council of Grapeland.

The speed limits on FM 1272 in Grapeland will be lowered in five locations and includes two school zones. Those new limits and locations include:

  • From the north Grapeland city limits to .560 miles south, the speed limit will be 45 miles per hour, lowered from 50 miles per hour.
  • From .560 miles south of the city limits of Grapeland to .359 miles south, the speed limit will be 40 miles per hour, lowered from 45 miles per hour;
  • From .919 miles south of the city limits of Grapeland to .382 miles south at the intersection of FM 227, the speed limit will be 35 miles per hour, lowered from 40 miles per hour;
  • At Grapeland Elementary School, the school zone speed limit will be 25 miles per hour when lights are flashing and 40 miles per hour at all other times from .591 miles south of the city limits to .200 miles south.
  • At Grapeland High School, the school zone speed limit will be 25 miles per hour when lights are flashing and 35 miles per hour at all other times from 1.066 miles south of the city limits to .100 miles south.

Motorists are urged to stay alert to these speed limit changes and reduce speed. Speed limits are enforceable once signs are set.
