Over $100K Raised in KICKS 105 St. Jude Radiothon
Last year, East Texans raised nearly $110,000 to help kids beat cancer with our annual KICKS 105 St. Jude Radiothon. That was February 2020. A week or two later, our world changed.
We were introduced to words such as Coronavirus, COVID-19, pandemic, and lockdown. Numerous businesses had to close their doors, multitudes lost their jobs. Flash forward one year and the stress, uncertainty and pandemic continues.
You know what else continues? Childhood cancer, and so does St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's fight against it. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, no matter what is going on in the world, researchers, doctors and the staff at St. Jude's have continued that fight, and with great results. The survival rates of the childhood cancers that St. Jude's treats have gone from the single digits to over 90% in some cases. These advancements have been made possible primarily through donations and fundraising events.
Over the course of the past 20+ years, the KICKS 105 St. Jude Radiothon has raised over over $1.3 million. This year, however, we weren't sure what to expect. We knew East Texans would recognize the continued need in battling childhood cancer, but in the midst of all this virus outbreak, priorities may have been altered.
Here's what was raised for the 2021 KICKS 105 St. Jude Radiothon. Moral of the story - never underestimate the generosity of East Texans. An ongoing pandemic and an impending winter event did not slow down the giving nature of our wonderful listeners.
$101,235 to help kids beat cancer. Thank you so much for stepping forward and giving from the heart.
