Saluting 6 Deep East Texas District Basketball Champions
The regular season for high school girls' basketball has come to a close, and now it's time for the UIL Texas playoffs. Numerous teams from across the Pineywoods will be trying to win a bi-district championship early next week, but for now, we want to highlight the district champs from the Deep East Texas area.
Central Heights Lady Devils
The Lady Devils are the undefeated champions of District 21-3A. They are closing in on the 30-win mark for the season, and they are ranked in the top 25 in the state in Class 3A. Last year, Central Heights made it to the 3rd round of the playoffs. They will meet Kountze in the bi-district round next Tuesday in Broaddus. Kountze finished 4th in their district, but they are the reigning state champs of Class 3A, Division II, so Central Heights will need to be ready to play.

Douglass Lady Indians
The Lady Indians also had a clean slate through district play en route to the top of District 22-2A. Douglass will face McLeod in the first round of the playoffs. That game will take place on Monday, February 16, in Hallsville. Last year, the Lady Indians advanced to the regional championship game.
Timpson Lady Bears
The Lady Bears, champions of District 23-2A, come in ranked in the top 20 in the state in Class 2A. Timpson hopes to improve on last year's playoff appearance when they lost in the bi-district round to Chireno.
Chireno Lady Owls
For the 2nd straight year, Chireno made it through the district season without a loss. The District 24-2A champs are ranked in the top 10 in the state in Class 2A. Last year, the Lady Owls made it to the area championships before being eliminated by Douglass.
Broaddus Lady Bulldogs
Broaddus is on a quest for back-to-back state championships. Last year, the Lady Bulldogs ended a storybook season with the Class A, Division I state title. How dominant have the Lady Bulldogs been this year? They have won 12 straight, and their average margin of victory has been over 55 points. 5th-ranked Broaddus will play their bi-district game on Tuesday, February 17, against Hull-Daisetta in Broaddus.
Brookeland Lady Cats
Brookeland's formula for success is to play an extremely challenging non-district schedule and then steamroll through district play on their way to the playoffs. The District 28-A champs are loaded again this year, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Brookeland and Broaddus battle it out again this year in the regional championships.
