Dan’s Return Gets Confusing in First ‘Roseanne’ Revival Promos
Like Will & Grace (and perhaps now Mad About You), sitcom revivals have a habit of ignoring their own series finales. That’s certainly the case with John Goodman’s Roseanne return, and the first official promos for our 2018 revival are not afraid to poke fun.
Now that ABC has booked a March 27 premiere for the classic series’ return, Roseanne already has the ball rolling on its first promos. They’re pretty simple for the most part – classic Dan, Roseanne, Darlene and Becky hanging around and watching TV – but things get a little weird when Roseanne tells her once-dead husband “You can’t live in the past, Dan. When things are gone, they’re gone forever.”
As many will remember, the Roseanne series finale capped off a severely esoteric ninth season that saw the Conners winning the lottery. Most surprising of all – the finale also revealed that Roseanne itself was written as a coping mechanism for the “real” Roseanne, as Dan had actually died of his heart attack in Season 8. Understandably, ABC was content to ignore that bombshell if Goodman signed on for the revival.
We’ll see if Roseanne provides any clearer insight into Dan’s fourth wall-breaking return, but stay tuned for more on the show’s return in March.
