Investigation Underway of Huge Sewage Discharge Near Lanana Creek
Officials with the City of Nacogdoches have released details about a sewer line break that discharged into Lanana Creek
City of Nacogdoches crews received notification of this possible sewer line break on the north end of the Lanana Creek trail at approximately 11:30 AM this morning (8/25/24). Crews responded and found that the broken pipe is a 15-inch diameter line that runs behind 4541 NE Stallings Drive.
Officials have contacted a contractor to expedite the repairs. Staff with the City of Nacogdoches has also notified the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) as well as local media as is protocol for an unauthorized discharge in excess of 100,000 gallons of sewer.
Residents walking the Lanana Creek trail should not come in contact with the creek water and should not allow their pets to play or swim in the creek at this time.
City staff will be monitoring the downstream waters and conducting sampling to determine the concentration of the sewage as well as the safety of the public.
More details will be released once authorities have determined the distance of the cleanup and treatment efforts.
