They say that 'defense wins championships'.  You'll get no argument from SFA or any of the other teams in the Southland Conference.  The Lumberjacks wrapped up sole possession of the SLC title with a hard-fought 58-49 victory over A&M-Corpus Christi.

SFA leads the nation in scoring defense, giving up an average of 50 points a game.

While the defense was once again stifling, Taylor Smith, Antonio Bostic, and Dez Haymond all scored in double figures and accounted for 47 of the points scored by the Jacks.

The 15-0 home record is great, the trophy and bragging rights are super, but there's still plenty of unfinished business.  SFA will be the #1 seed in the upcoming Southland Conference Tourney which means the Jacks will get first and second round byes and will play in a semifinal game next Friday at 5 p.m.  The goal is to win the championship game on Saturday night and get the automatic bid in the NCAA tournament.  SFA is assured of an NIT tournament bid if they drop one of their two final games, but that's not the goal the Jacks have established for themselves.

The Southland Conference tournament will be played once again this year at the Merrell Center in Katy.  You can get tickets to the game by going to the SFA sports website.

Axe 'em, Jacks!!
