When Hank Williams Jr., lost his daughter, Katie, on June 13, 2020, he joined a tragic country music fraternity of singers who’ve also lost children. Fame and fortune does not insulate one from the highs and lows of life, and nearly 10 artists have suffered the most devastating of all personal tragedies.

Randy Rogers and his wife lost their newborn daughter, Rumer, six days after her birth due to a rare genetic disorder. George Strait lost his daughter, Jenifer, in a tragic car accident when she was 13 years old. Loretta Lynn suffered through the loss of two of her children; Jack Benny Lynn, in 1984, when he went for a ride on his horse and never returned after a failed attempt to ford Duck River near the family's farm, and her oldest daughter, Betty Sue, in 2013, who died at 64 from complications from emphysema.

Montgomery Gentry singer Eddie Montgomery lost his son, Hunter, after an accidental overdose that left him on life support for several days before his passing. Meanwhile, Willie Nelson, Eddie Rabbitt, Aaron Watson and Roy Rogers have also suffered terrible losses.

No parent should have to bury their child, and Taste of Country sends our prayers to the families who have had to suffer the unthinkable. On occasion these events have led to great art. Aaron Watson's song "Bluebonnets" is one of the more beautiful songs you'll ever hear about the death of a child. His touching ballad from the Underdog album speaks of universal truths while maintaining a personal thread to his Julia Grace.
