After a week and a half of dry weather in the Pineywoods get ready for some unstable weather over the next week which could bring up to 5 inches of rain across the area.
A strong cool front is making its way across the mid-section of the United States and that will mean some relief from the above average temperatures by Wednesday. However, it also means showers and thunderstorms with some areas getting over 5 inches of rain.
Don't put away the heavy jackets just yet. A strong cold front has stormed across East Texas Monday morning bringing temperatures into the 50s with wind chills 10-15 degrees below that. And now we have the possibility of ICE??!!
The good news is we're not expecting any severe weather this weekend. The bad news is up to 3 inches of rain could fall in some parts of the Pineywoods.
Forecasters are calling for another round of severe storms in the Pineywoods by Thursday afternoon and evening. Once again, high winds, hail, and deadly lightning are expected to be the biggest threats.
Early this Friday afternoon severe storms are starting to pop up across the Hill Country and North Central Texas, and forecasters are expecting some of the storms to bring nasty weather to the Pineywoods by later this afternoon and evening.
It seems that most of the folks I've talked to are more than ready for Spring to get here. The warmer weather is welcome especially when considering the 4 ice/snow events that we had over the past 2 months.
Be careful what you wish for.
The National Weather Service has upgraded the Winter Weather Advisory for some portions of the Pineywoods to a Winter Storm Warning. Counties included are Shelby, Sabine, San Augustine, and Panola.
Sleet, snow, and freezing rain are possible again in the Pineywoods, but as is usually the case, you'll probably be running the air coniditioner by the end of the week. A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for portions of East Texas beginning late tonight.
It was the second winter storm to hit East Texas in less than a week. Advisories were issued, warnings were posted, and schools were closed and delayed as East Texans braced for 'Snowmageddon 2'.
