To say I got a birthday surprise would be a vast understatement. Thursday morning (Aug 6th), one day before my 51st birthday, several folks walked into the KICKS 105 Studios to pay me a visit.
"Watch number 0, if you want to become a better basketball player, just watch Thomas Walkup." That's what I've told my 15-year-old son and that's what I would tell any coach or parent. "Just watch how Walkup plays the game."
Recently at the half of an SFA basketball game, the TOTs took over the court. The 'Teams of Tomorrow' features preschool and elementary aged kids who learn basketball skills.
The Stephen F. Austin basketball team spent the Thanksgiving holidays in Las Vegas at the Continental Tires Invitational Basketball Tournament. Although the Lumberjacks may have missed out on the traditional Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends, they did feast on the competition and ended up bringing home the tourney championship.
Will he stay or will he go?
That has been the question on the minds of many SFA faithful fans concerning the status of Lumberjack basketball coach Brad Underwood.
Memorable...Miraculous...Magical.
These are just some of the words that can be thrown into the wonderful mix of descriptions that define the run of the 2013-14 Lumberjack Basketball Season...and even when you put all these words together, they don't even come close to capturing what was accomplished this year.
The 'Jacks are turning heads, and not just around East Texas and the Southland Conference. National sports outlets and sportswriters are also jumping on the SFA basketball bandwagon.
One of the most exciting events in sports is the buzzer beater for the victory. That's exactly what happened Saturday night, but we'll get to that in just a bit. If you haven't been to a Ladyjack or Lumberjack basketball game this year, you've been missing out on some great entertainment.
The SFA Lumberjacks return home tonight having accomplished an amazing feat, they reeled off five straight conference wins on a grueling road trip. With those hard-fought victories, the Jacks are now 18-2 on the year, 7-0 in conference play, and ranked number #7 in the nation for mid-major college basketball teams.
The 2013-14 basketball schedule has been released by the SFA Lumberjacks. The defending Southland Conference champs will enter their first year under the tutelage of head coach Brad Underwood.
