I've been a soccer dad, so I know that look of pride and joy that comes from your kid when you give him or her a brand new soccer ball.  Thankfully, I never did this.

Youth sports in Russia are an ugly business.

$1.1 million has been earmarked for renovations at Nacogdoches Dragon stadium which includes a track resurfacing later in the Spring.  However, the newly installed turf is ready to go and will see its first official action this evening.

If the kids are in a soccer league right now, it's nice to take them to a grown-up game so they can watch and be inspired. The SFA women's soccer team claimed the Southland Conference title last year, and the momentum continues this season.  They'll host LSU tonight at 7pm in a non-conference match-up.  This will be the final non-conference game until late October when they host the Texas Longhorn

The Dempsey scoring spree 'across the pond' continues. The East Texas native who plays European club soccer for Fulham, scored two goals last night leading his team to a 3-0 victory.

Abby Wambach scored the go-ahead goal, and the United States woman's soccer team defeated France on Wednesday, 3-1, clinching a spot in the finals of the Woman's World Cup. After the US took an early 1-0 lead, France began dominating the game's possession, finally scoring an equalizer in the 55th minute. But Les Blues weren't able to further capitalize on what ended up being a 25-11 shots-on-goal

Earlier this week, soccer star David Beckham pulled double-duty as a security guard and helped to apprehend a fan who had run onto the field at Old Trafford in Manchester, England. Beckham was lining up for a corner kick when the fan, who looked to be quite young, invaded the pitch and began circling about.

Two videos featuring unusual trick plays have been making the Internet rounds this week. In the first, a high school soccer team in Arkansas fools their opponents by having two players feign a collision, then using that distraction to set up an easy goal.
