On July 4, America turns 250 years old. I've seen this commonly referred to as our semiquincentennial. If you want to dig for more terms, you could say the USA is celebrating its quarter-millennial birthday, or how about we are two and a half centuries old. I'm not even sure what a sestercentennial is, but apparently, that also means 250 years old. Let's just keep it simple and say America250.

Since this is a monumental birthday, Texas has passed legislation allowing the sale of fireworks for an extra 24 hours. Normally, the sale of fireworks ends at midnight on July 4. However, SB 996, an amendment authored by Senator Robert Nichols, will give fireworks vendors from 12:01 am to 11:59 pm on Sunday, July 5, the opportunity to stay open for one more day. That's great news for those who want to celebrate our 250th even more, bad news for pets who are sensitive to loud noises.
