Thomas Rhett Shares Busbee’s Touching Christmas Message to Him
Rhett turned to Instagram on Tuesday (Oct. 1) to share a message he received from Busbee over the holidays in 2018.
"I got this e mail from my good friend @busbee last Christmas," Rhett captions a screen capture of his friend's message. "I’m so heartbroken to hear about him passing. My prayers are with his sweet family. I feel like Busbee had it figured out while he was on this earth. He has encouraged me to look at this life as it is. We are but a mist. We are here then we are gone. Go out and love people today. Be a light in dark places. Love and miss you Busbee."
Busbee explained in his message to Rhett that for some reason, Rhett would pop into his mind right before he went to bed every night, saying it was "super random."
"I have no idea why (at least at that moment). But it has happened many times now," he wrote. "So I just say a quick prayer for you and your family. Blessing. Protection. Wisdom. Like I said, random ... but there you go! Have an amazing Christmas. Our love to your family!"
Busbee, whose real name was Michael James Ryan, was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer called glioblastoma a few months ago, CMT reports. He died at age 43, leaving behind a wife and three children.
The songwriter and producer first carved a career in pop music before making a giant impact on Nashville's music scene in recent years. He worked extensively with Maren Morris and Keith Urban, Florida Georgia Line, Rascal Flatts and many more.
