Thompson Square, ‘You Make It Look So Good’ [Listen]
Thompson Square delve deep into their personal lives with their latest single, "You Make It Look So Good," in a way that really connects with listeners.
The married country duo of Keifer and Shawna Thompson took some time off after their last single, "Trans Am," to have a baby and be with their son after he was born. They have been working on a new album with producer Nathan Chapman, and "You Make It Look So Good" is a prime example of how they say baby Cooper has impacted their music.
Sonically the track isn't that much different than the melodic pop-country we've come to expect from Thompson Square. It features a lead vocal from Keifer Thompson, with Shawna contributing an ethereal vocal harmony that throws the ball right down the center of TS2's fan base.
The lyrics detail the changes someone goes through, from wanting the freedom of having the time to hang out with their friends and do whatever they want, to settling into a happy relationship: "You make it look so good / Girl, you got me wondering what it might be like / Knowing every night / Who I'm waking up with on the other side of the bed."
The couple trade places in the second verse, with Shawna singing lead and Keifer chiming in with harmony for an interesting point-counterpoint look at real-life relationships and how they can change our lives. It would be a solid track coming from any male-female pairing, but the fact that these singers are married in real life makes the song pack that much more of an emotional punch. The message is universal, and both male and female fans can see themselves in "You Make It Look So Good."
Did You Know? Keifer Thompson said for many years that he did not want to have children before he finally got the itch to be a father.

Thompson Square, "You Make It Look So Good" Lyrics:
"I like stretching out in my big old bed / Putting both pillows underneath my head / TV blaring all night long / Nothing but ESPN on / Picking up my buddies on a Wednesday night / Dollar beers till they turn off the light / Nobody checking in or up on me / Who you with, where you gonna be?"
Chorus:
"But ooh, you make it look so good / Yeah, you got me wondering what it might be like / Knowing every night who I'm waking up with / On the other side of the bed / And I never thought I'd let anyone ever get close enough / To make me fall in love / But ooh, you make it look so good."
"Lately you've been taking up all my time / I used to spend with my friends talking, drinking wine / Love was never really high on my list / Baby, now you're showing me what I missed."
"Baby, you've been taking up all my time / I don't, I don't mind / I don't, I don't mind / You make it look so good / So good, so good."
