It has been a dry October thus far in East Texas.  Despite a near miss from Hurricane Delta, rainfall totals for the month have been way off from normal.  The Angelina County Airport near Diboll has recorded just under an inch of rain for the month, and that's one of the higher amounts in the Pineywoods.  Longview has only received 0.17 for October, and Tyler is reporting only .03 for the month, so some rain would be welcome.

A cool front is expected to move into Deep East Texas later this evening, bringing with it a pretty decent chance of showers and/or thunderstorms.  The rain chances are at 50% in the afternoon hours today (Friday) and will diminish as the evening progresses.  As of 6:45 am, several areas of showers were located between Tyler and Dallas along the I-20 corridor.  However, much stronger storms were located between Fort Worth and Wichita Falls.

As of now, the National Weather Service is not expecting any of these to reach severe limits as they enter our area, however, some of the storms could be strong with gusty winds, brief downpours, and deadly cloud to ground lightning.  We're not expecting a lot of rain to fall in the area, but the quarter to half inch of rain that's forecasted will definitely be welcome.

Cooler temperatures will filter in later tonight with a low expected in the 50s and a high on Saturday of 70.  However, warmer weather will quickly make it back on Sunday with a high of 82.  Then, a stronger cold front will move into the area late Monday giving us highs in the 60s and lows in the 50s, plus, the chance of rain will be with us for most of next week.
