Groveton, Central Heights Just a Few Area Teams Ranked in State

The Texas UIL High school baseball and softball playoffs are just around the corner and many teams from the Deep East Texas area are having outstanding seasons. Quite a few teams are getting recognized in the state rankings.

Diamond Pro/Texas High School Baseball Top 25

Every Monday, TexasHighSchoolBaseball.com posts its top 25 for the various conferences in the Lone Star State. Here's a look at those Pineywoods area baseball teams that are currently ranked in the top 25.

Class 5A

Lufkin - The Panthers are ranked #19 in the state. Lufkin is 19-6 on the year and at the top of District 16-5A with an 11-1 mark. Lufkin has 3 more district games to play, two of those against second-place Kingwood Park.

Class 4A

Hudson - The Hornets are ranked #11 in the state. Hudson is 20-5-1 on the year and they sit atop District 18-4A with a 7-1 record. The Hornets have two more district games on the season, one against the 16th-ranked Bullard Panthers, who currently are 6-2 in district play.
Carthage - The Bulldogs are ranked #20 in the state. Carthage is 16-8-2 on the year, and currently in 2nd place in their district with a record of 10-2.

Class 3A

Central Heights - The Blue Devils have been dominant over the past few years and 2024 is no exception. They are ranked number 5 in the state. Central Heights is 24-1 on the season, and a perfect 11-0 in district play.
Diboll - The Lumberjacks are 23-2 on the year and 10-1 in district. The 14th ranked 'Jacks have a big district showdown next week with Central Heights.

Class 2A/A

Garrison - The Bulldogs are ranked #4 in the latest poll which was released on Monday. Garrison is 19-7-2 on the year and 9-1 in district play. But, that one district loss was against Shelbyville on Tuesday...read on...
Shelbyville - The Dragons are ranked #21, however, that was before they defeated Garrison. These two teams will match up again on April 19 with a district title on the line.
Groveton - The Indians are 19-5 on the year and 6-0 in district. Groveton is ranked #7 in the state.

Texas Girls Coaches Association State Softball Poll

Class 3A

Coldspring-Oakhurst - The 5th-ranked Lady Trojans are 21-3 on the year and 12-1 in district. However, that district loss occurred on Tuesday to the Lady Owls of Anderson-Shiro. The Lady Trojans, Lady Owls, and Lady Pirates of Shepherd are all very good teams and could make a run at the district championship.
Huntington - The Devilettes are 18-4 on the year and district champs with a mark of 11-1. District 21-3A is stacked with great teams. Central and Diboll are playoff-bound and both those teams could make deep runs.

Class 2A/A

Groveton - The Lady Indians are district champs and 22-4-1 on the year. They are ranked #5 in the state.
Brookeland - The Lady Cats are 16-3 on the year and champs of District 23-A
Latexo - The Lady Tigers have a record 20-10 and are ranked #24 in the state.
