Which East Texas Basketball Teams Are Ranked in the Top 25?
The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches have just released their high school boys and girls rankings for the week, and quite a few teams from Deep East Texas are making their mark.
The Lufkin Panthers continue to be perfect in the 2022-2023 season. The Pack have played 15 games and have won every one of them. As a result, Lufkin is ranked #9 in the Class 5A rankings, and they are the only team in the top 10 that has yet to suffer a defeat. Last year, the Panthers advanced all the way to the regional quarterfinals in the Class 5A playoffs.
The Douglass Indians are also on a roll. They have compiled a record of 11-1, good to set them up at #10 in the Class 2A rankings. Their only loss came against 9th-ranked Martins Mill.
On the girl's side of the ledger, the always-powerful Chireno Lady Owls are once again on a roll. They are ranked #9 in the state in Class 2A. They have won 18 out of 20 games. Their two losses have been by a combined 3 points.
Here's a look at some of the other area basketball teams that are ranked in the Top 25 in their respective classifications. Their current won-loss record as of Monday, December 12 is indicated in parenthesis.
