Listen to the ‘Aladdin’ Remake’s ‘Whole New World’ by ZAYN and Zhavia Ward
With a new version of the Disney classic Aladdin due in theaters in a few weeks, it is time to listen to the new versions of the classic soundtrack songs. The big showstopper is, of course, “A Whole New World.” In the 90s, the hit single about new horizons and fantastic points of view was performed by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle. The new interpretation which you can watch above, is by ZAYN and Zhavia Ward.
Here’s more details on the new Aladdin soundtrack, via the Disney press release:
The “Aladdin” original motion picture soundtrack features an unforgettable score from eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken (“Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid”), along with new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and two-time Academy Award winner Howard Ashman (“Little Shop of Horrors”), three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice (“The Lion King”) and one song written by Menken and Oscar and Tony Award-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (“La La Land,” “Dear Evan Hansen”). From Walt Disney Records, the digital soundtrack is set for release on May 21 at 9:00pm PT and will be followed by the physical album on May 24.
“Friend Like Me,” is performed in the new film by Will Smith and DJ Khaled in a “new updated rendition” that will play during the closing credits of the movie. That’s right, for the first time in years, Will Smith is doing an end credits song for one of his movies. FINALLY. I really feel like Collateral Beauty could have used a Will Smith end credits song.
In addition to all the old ditties you love, the live-action Aladdin features a new song by Alan Menken, Benj Pasek, and Justin Paul called “Speechless” which is sung by Naomi Scott’s Jasmine in the film. The digital Aladdin soundtrack comes out on May 21; the film itself opens in theaters on May 24. For your reference or karaoke research purposes, below is the original “Whole New World” music video starring Peabo and Regina. It rules.
