Lufkin Cowgirl Wins Friday Night Mutton Busting Competition

Another large crowd took to the stands at the Angelina Benefit Rodeo. It was Friday night and rodeo announcer Kade Rogge revealed to the crowd that they were about to see dozens and dozens of cowboys and cowgirls who had previously been to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

Some of those NFR finalists got their first taste of rodeo by taking part in mutton-busting competitions, just like the ones that are held each year at this Lufkin rodeo.

On Thursday night, a young cowgirl named Emmy Jackson won the nightly title. On Friday, it was once again a young lady who had the best ride of the night. Emma Bigby was the first rider out and she was not letting go, even well after the 8-second horn had sounded.

Emma's score of 91 set the standard for the night and ended up being the top mark of the night. Other 80+ point rides were accomplished by Gunner Matchett (81), Hadlye Merrit (80), Emory Rains (83),
