Officials with the City of Lufkin have announced that after seven months in the “interim” role, Morgan Williams has been officially named Animal Services Manager of Kurth Memorial Animal Services.

Williams joined the City of Lufkin in April 2023 as the interim manager after a decade with the City of Humble Animal Control.

Since joining the City, Williams has been instrumental in overseeing positive changes at the shelter, including the selection and implementation of new policies, standard operating practices, animal care techniques, and housing strategies. She has also hired and trained a new team while personally overseeing and participating in shelter renovations.

“Morgan has demonstrated the knowledge, experience, and abilities to succeed as animal services manager,” City Manager Kevin Gee said. “We are pleased with the shelter’s progress under her leadership and believe she is the best person for the job.”

Williams and the staff are working well together and successfully coordinating with rescue organizations to move animals for adoption.

Williams said she is honored for the opportunity and is looking to the future.

“I’m excited to be here, the opportunity to stay permanently, and the changes that will continue making the shelter a better place for our community,” Williams said. “Our team is looking forward to additional shelter renovations, and we’re hoping to secure grant funding to address some of those needs in the future.”

Anyone interested in adopting, fostering, volunteering, or donating, can contact Kurth Memorial Animal Services at 936-633-0218, visit them online, or in person at 1901 Hill Street.

They are open for adoptions Tuesday - Friday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.
