CAUTION - EXPLICIT LANGUAGE IN VIDEO

I studied meteorology in college, but I must have been absent on the day they taught about 'sun dogs'.  This video looks like something that comes straight from the movie 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind'.

An argument could be made that there is an alien ship shining a light beam upwards into the cloud.  There have been several different theories for the cause of 'sun dogs' but the most widely held belief involves lightning, changing electric fields, ice crystals, and changes in reflectivity.

So, the next time there is a thunderstorm in the area and the sun is behind one of those thunderclouds, you might want to take a look to see if you can spot a sun dog.  Of course, just don't get stuck by lightning.
