At a press conference earlier this afternoon, it was announced that Memorial Health System of East Texas and Catholic Health Initiatives have signed a non-binding letter of intent to transfer ownership of Memorial to CHI. The health care systems will negotiate the terms of the agreement with the expectation of reaching an agreement by spring 2014.

The inaugural Race for Success to benefit Junior Achievement was held this past Sunday in Lufkin. The event featured a half-marathon, 10K, and 5K races. I had originally planned to run the 10k race, but due to some nasty knee issues that came up in October, I ended up giving the 5K a try.
The U.S. Army Recruiting Office in Lufkin is hosting a blood drive today in the Lufkin Mall Parking lot. The event continues until 6 this evening and the blood coaches are located near Rudolph the Red-Nosed Pumping Unit.
