This was supposed to be the week of the Angelina County Fair.  Several hundred students from across Angelina County were ready to head to the George H Henderson Expo Center to show off the animals, arts & crafts, baked goods, and much more.  One of the main goals was to make the Saturday auction so that they get money that could be used for college tuition and/or to help them recoup some of the money spent on their exhibits and projects.

Well, we know what happened next.

The coronavirus pandemic has caused all of us to change our way of life.  With that, the cancellation of most all crowd-gathering events including the Angelina County Fair.  The Fair Board realized shutting down the fair was the right decision to make, but they wanted to find a way to help these kids to recover some of the money from the auction that did not happen.

Friday, from 3-7 p.m., the Angelina County Fair Board and KICKS 105 are launching the Angelina County Fair Recovery Event. Listen to KICKS during that time and we'll be introducing you to some of the outstanding students who were set to show at the fair.  Beginning at 5 pm, we'll be going live on the Angelina County Fair Facebook Page to show you pictures and videos of some of the kids and bring you live updates on the fundraising.

Any amount is welcome.  You can donate online or by calling 936-241-4898. Operators will be answering the phones until 7 this evening (3/27). You can designate your donation to go to the buyer's pool or to a specific student by using the online add-on feature. You may donate to the online feature of this fundraiser for the next several weeks.

We would like to say a special thanks to Brookshire Brothers, the presenting sponsor of the Angelina County Fair.  Even though the fair didn't happen, Brookshire Brothers still made it possible for 10 seniors to each receive a $1,000 scholarship.
