Brookshire Brothers Allots $90,000 in Grants to 34 Groups

Brookshire Brothers opened their first store in 1921.  In the 101 years since then, the Lufkin-based business has made it a point to give back to the communities in which they operate.

Locally, we've seen that in such events as the Texas State Forest Festival and Harold's House Purse Bingo, just to name a few.  In fact, the corporation has a separate arm in charge of its contributions to non-profit organizations.

Every year, the Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation designates tens of thousands of dollars in grants to be given to highly deserving nonprofit organizations and educational foundations that help foster stronger communities and families across the state of Texas.

In addition to the donations made by the corporation to a variety of organizations, the Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation furthers the company’s mission by assisting additional agencies on a larger scale.  Funded by Brookshire Brothers’ generous vendor partners, who sponsor annual golf tournaments, the charitable foundation has given away millions of dollars over the past two decades.

Thirty-four nonprofit organizations, located in Lufkin, Nacogdoches, College Station, Vidor, Newton, Navasota, Jacksonville, Jasper, Dublin, Canyon Lake and Brenham, as well as four educational foundations in Lufkin, College Station and Jarrell, received grants this year.

“The Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation recognizes the hard work that is done day in and day out by these organizations, who are truly making a difference in their communities,” said Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation Board Chairman Sally Alvis. “It is a great honor to help these organizations who feed people, protect women and children from domestic violence, provide gas money for cancer patients and provide safe spaces for children to learn and grow, just to name a few. Our board of directors is truly inspired by everything they are able to accomplish, and we are proud to be a small part of that.”
